GRATITUDE

Message from president/CEO Chantel Schieffer

A young friend who is battling cancer introduced me to deep, meaningful gratitude. The kind of true appreciation for all that you have when it seems like life just might not be going as you planned.

She asked her friends to openly express gratitude every day for ten days, which I did. Many of my declarations related to what I learn through Leadership Montana:

  • The power of listening with an open mind.
  • A unique education about challenges and opportunities facing our state.
  • How vulnerability can lead to more powerful connections.
  • And intelligent conversation…the kind that stretches your thinking and allows you to suspend your own judgement, even for a moment.

These and other lessons are firmly in my toolbox for when I need to actively practice being a better wife, mother, friend, and citizen. As a result for that, and for all of you who choose to be a part of this community, I am grateful.
