Laurence A. “Lanny” Hubbard is the former President/CEO of Montana State Fund (2003 – 2022), a competitive workers’ compensation insurance state fund with over 290 employees and $1.6B in assets. Joining the Fund in 1989, he has previously held various positions of Legal Counsel, Underwriting Manager, Vice President of Underwriting & Marketing, and Vice President of Insurance Operations. He received his BA from Western Washington University and Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law. He is a graduate of the Leadership Montana Class of 2007 and Masters Class of 2019.
A proven strategic leader with over 32 years of experience in the industry, Lanny is the past president of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF) and has dedicated his career to advancing the mission and success of legislatively created workers’ compensation insurers in the US and Canada. He served on the board of directors of the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) from 2012 to 2016 and is the past Chair of the board of governors of Leadership Montana. As a business community leader, he most recently served as Chairman of the Montana Chamber Foundation (2021 – 2022). He has considerable experience working with legislatures and several Governors during his career as chief spokesperson for Montana State Fund.
As President/CEO, Lanny led a culture of connection and transparency and championed individual growth and development for employees. Lanny is a certified facilitator of The Pacific
Institute’s “Investment in Excellence” and “Thought Patterns 5.0”, an educational program
exploring cognitive behavior theory and its impact on personal and professional achievement.
