CORE VALUES

Message from president/CEO Chantel Schieffer

If you compromise your core values, you go nowhere. – Roy T. Bennett

The concept of “core values” was a key focus in our first lesson of the Masters Class last month and since then, I seem to read about core values everyday.

Integral to great leadership is very clearly understanding, appreciating, and living out our core values as an organization – and also as individuals.

Core values are those commonly-held beliefs that provide a framework for our collaborative efforts and make hard work worth doing. Our core values make us a team, taking us from an “I” to a “we”.

Leadership Montana is comprised of two trainers, three professional staff, 13 Board of Governors members, 44 Flagship program participants, 126 committee and community volunteers, 203 sponsors and donors, and 593 alumni. We are a large, multifaceted team spread across a vast geographic area and are held together by the core values we hold in common including:

  • Diversity of thought, opinion, people, landscape, communities, profession and background
  • Growth through Gracious Space and other leadership practices
  • Connection to each other and Montana
  • Partnership with financial supporters, stakeholders, and thought leaders
  • Service of professional staff and dedicated volunteers including our Board of Governors and committee members

It is with these core values in mind that we incorporate knowledge, collaboration and civility to build a better Montana. Without them, we go nowhere. Our gratitude goes out to each of you for your unique role in this work. Thank you.
